i have a question dough .... how did you obtain this shot...because when i try to capture a sunset all turns into black and i get lots of sillhouettes... i notices you used a ND grad... this may be the answer?
Reply
:icongoranda:
GoranDA Featured By Owner Apr 3, 2008
yes, you noticed the answer :)
if you look at the pier, which is situated in the gradient, it appears as a silhouette ;)
I mesure the exposition on the foregroung (the rock), and let the gradient density (-3 stop, -2 could have been better I think) do his job on the sky

Bonne foreground, middle-ground, background compo ;)
Bonne cold WB.

glad to be compare to these guys, thx :p

the filter kit is a cokin z_pro filter holder, it allows you to use rectangle filters, very useful for the gradient neutral density filters, as you can fit the gradient to the horizon line. with circular gradient neutral density the gradient is stuck to the middle. Moreover, this kind of holder can be fit on every lens with different adapter rings. the advantage of the "Z" holder compare to the regular "P" holder is that it uses larger filters (4 inches vs 3inches) and then can be used on very wide angle lens without inducing vignetting ;)
